Author comments: “This is my first manga of tfa in 2011. When I saw the Transformers animated [for] the first time in Japanese, I interpreted Professor Sumdac and Megatron had [spent] fifty years as friends because they cut the scene of Megatron’s awaking.

Megatron said ‘Thank you for looking after me for fifty years,’, and Professor Sumdac calls Megatron ‘Megatron-kun.’ ‘-kun’ is very friendly! I was so excited at their friendship!

So this is why I draw this.”

 

I was given some notes on how to translate this. I went with what was on the page, but some things turned out different than the notes.

 

Page 1:

Sumdac: You were my first friend

Sumdac: Happy Birthday Megatron!

Megatron: What is. That…

Sumdac: It’s your birthday present!

Sumdac: Didn’t you say you can’t remember your own birthday? So I thought I’d celebrate the day I found you. Didn’t I talk to you about this before?

It was going to be today.

Megatron: Aah, is that my assembly day? Now that you mention it, we did talk about that…!

 

Page 2:

Sumdac: Because you’re always [so] serious I went and bought a game for you. I [actually] did it a long time ago but I heard it’s a hard one!

If you install it on your sub-control panel, perhaps you could play it?

Here…we’ve known each other for a while so

INSTALLATION START

Sumdac: I thought to thank you for always being a good friend…

Megatron: Sumdac! Such a thing does not concern me. And what’s more, I would like to be restored to my original form as soon as possible…

Sumdac: Ah…so…I see….sorry. 

BEEP

INSTALLATION COMPLETE

Sumdac: Um….Megatron, when you’ve gotten your original body back, what will you do then?

Megatron: Huh?

 

Page 3:

Megatron: Why, of course…

I want to work for the sake of the world and humanity! There is someone I want to thank fully, yes…

MACHINE NOISES

Sumdac: Thank…? (He doesn’t mean me…shucks)

(I don’t know who he’s talking about, but…

I only somehow understood that he was trying to get away from me)

Megatron: Hey hey Sumdac.

Sumdac: Later…I have school.

Sumdac: Megatron has nothing but his head…of course he wants his original body back.

And yet I talked to him like that…I should say sorry…

Megatron: I missed you, my dear friend.

Sumdac: Sorry…! So then…um…Megatron…I…

Megatron: While you were away, I had too much free time.

So I modified the headset over there.

Sumdac: Isn’t this the toy I made for a class assignment, a long time ago?

Megatron: Aah, but the circuits were alive! If you put it on, Sumdac…

You should be able to access my subcontrol panel for about an hour

Sumdac: Eh?

Megatron: It will make your brain waves synchronized with my circuits

For example, we can play that game together when you’re wearing it. OKAY?

Sumdac: Megatron

Sumdac: This is the top layer of Megatron’s subcontrol panel, isn’t it! He granted me access to his components for the first time.

Megatron, where are you?

Megatron: I’m here, Sumdac…

Sumdac: …Cool!

Sumdac: Th-

Megatron: Nuuuuuuu! What does this mean?!

Sumdac: That was really haaard

Sumdac: Thank you, Megatron

That was the first time I got to play a game with a friend like that

Sumdac: I’ve mentioned this before, but I don’t have family, or friends… …But I was happy the day I found you.

Megatron: In my case, I sure was lucky that you found me.

CHA CHA CHA LA LA

Megatro: Eeeh? Game Over already?

Sumdac: Some day for sure

I will restore your original body, Megatron!

Megatron: Well that, Sumdac

While it is true that cannot be repaired as things are right now, I have a good idea

You should start a company!

Sumdac: A…company?!

Megatron: My restoration requires money…that money will be made through that company, Fuguda-kun*.

(Fuguda-kun is a reference to the series Sazae-san. He is Sazae’s husband. Unfortunately I’ve never read Sazae-san so I don’t know the full reference.)

Sumdac: No! You say it so easily, but - Fuguda?!

Megatron: Don’t you understand? You have brains and talent that astonish even myself.

Megatron: And above all, Megatron, the greatest in the universe, has your back.

What troubles you, Isaac Sumdac?

[ It appears the video game involves the Decepticons defeating the evil Autobots ]

 

Sumdac: AH

Sumdac: Me? Me (of all people) as president?

BA-DUMP BA-DUMP

Sumdac: (Your words were always full of confidence)

(They always gave me strength)

Sumdac: Nevertheless, you must know a lot about starting a business. Even though you never leave this place.

Megatron: Don’t you know? I have nothing to do but to watch TV on my circuits and sleep. (…I’m like a grandpa.)

Sumdac: But now I understand!
